Fly to Oskarshamn with Skyways
The three things that have characterised Oskarshamn over the years are trading, shipping and shipbuilding.
The town got its name from King Oscar I, when the town Döderhultsvik received city rights in 1856. It has always been a good harbour, and is still home to a lively shipping industry.
Oskarshamn is not only a good harbour, there is also an archipelago that many find one of the most beautiful in the world. Between Runnö in the south and Örö in the north you will find 5429 islands. The archipelago is also one of Sweden's least exploited. If you want to explore this natural treasure you will find many boat trips to the archipelago starting from Oskarshamn.
And if you want to know more about maritime development in Oskarshamn you should pay a visit to the Maritime Museum, which has one of the finest marine collections anywhere. There are many paintings and ship models to take you through developments from the tenth-century log boat to the shipbuilding of the current century.
We would also encourage you to take a stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets of the old town of Oskarshamn. There are beautiful gardens and old wooden houses from the 1800s.
In the middle of Kalmar the legendary island of Blue Virgin rises 86 meters above sea level. It is probably better known as Blåkulla and legend hast it that it is home to the Easter witches. Take a boat trip from Oskarshamn and you can discover the bizarre landscape of potholes and caves and even an exciting maze. You may even spot a few Easter witches flying on broomsticks, but we can’t promise!
